CHARITY EVENTS
AT ST. JOSEPH'S
St. Joseph's have been embracing the Christian spirit of
giving through its efforts for charitable causes lately.
A cake sale was organised by Mrs Cunningham for
Macmillan Trust. Mrs. Cunningham coordinated the event
and even motivated staff and students to get baking. She
was ably assisted by Sixth Form students who ran the
cake sale. They raised an impressive
£371 for this
important charity.
Also just prior to mid term, Junior school pupils and
staff completed a sponsored walk in aid of Action MS. The walk which took place in Gosford Forest Park was a
great success with a substantial amount of money raised.
These events illustrate the ethos of caring for others
which is very prevalent in the school.
Thursday last, 6th October, St. Joseph's High School welcomed its Year 8 in pupils and parents to a mass to celebrate this milestone in their educational lives. There was an extraordinary turn out. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Liam McKinney. After the mass, Principal Mr, Scally addressed the group and extended his welcome to the new pupils and their parents. Mr. Scally outlined what St. Joseph's School has to offer these pupils, as a school that values each pupil individually and strives to ensure each pupil realises their potential. He reminded those gathered of the school's recent academic success in the G.C.S.E.'s where 88% achieved five or more grade C's. Following this, pupils were treated to a slideshow recounting their first few weeks in St. Joseph's High School. Students have been working in all departments on a Connected Learning project entitled "What makes South Armagh unique?" The evening ended with refreshments in the canteen where parents had an opportunity to view their child's work.
