Year 9 Pupils Go Green at St. Joseph's

Recently the Geography Department was delighted to welcome Mr Patrick McShane, Environmental             Officer with Newry and Mourne District Council and Pauric McCreesh from REGEN to speak to                         Year 9 students. This talk was to inform pupils for a 'Connected Learning Project' linking Science,             Citizenship, Religion and Geography, which focused on the issue of recycling in the community.                         It also afforded the pupils the opportunity to see how local entrepreneurs have created a business                     out of dealing with their waste. The pupils were then given the task of creating their own recycling                 business and the results of this were very impressive. Year 9 certainly has many budding                     entrepreneurs. The Geography Department would like to thank the guest speakers for generously                 giving of their time and special thanks to REGEN who provided prizes for the quiz.

W5 hosted the "Finance Zone"                                     where pupils worked with STEM ambassadors on calculating profits in a fun but messy Cupcake Challenge!

ST. JOSEPH'S  WELCOMES YEAR 8 STUDENTS WITH SCHOOL MASS

St. Joseph's students responded brilliantly to what has become an annual event in the school organised by                                                 Mrs. Amanda Quinn R.E. teacher. One hundred and seven shoeboxes were filled with gifts for less fortunate                                             boys and girls. These were collected by a representative from the charity Samaritan's purse which organises                                                 the transportation of the boxes. They thanked the school for their fantastic response.
