St. Joseph's hold a concert to put a spring in your step

Thursday 31st March saw St. Joseph's school bursting at the seams with talent as it held a spring concert. This concert organised by Mrs. Gibbs and Ms. Mc Namee, from the Music department was an opportunity for pupils to showcase their talent. Certainly talent was there in abundance. The audience was treated to musical delights both instrumental and vocal. Also on display was dance, ranging from traditional Irish to the more contemporary street dance. The night was superbly attended with a full house in attendance. The atmosphere was wonderful and has created a real buzz around the school. The night was a resounding success.

Certificate of Personal Effectiveness for St Joseph's Crossmaglen Students

St Joseph's year 14 students have achieved CoPE Level 3 certification.  This qualification provides young people with the opportunity to take part in a range of activities that help develop and demonstrate a range of personal, key and employability skills leading to personal effectiveness. In turn they can give something back to their community and also obtain recognition and accreditation.

In the competitive environment of university application, CoPE provides young people with a "third dimension" to their application.  They have evidence that they can work as part of a team, improve their own learning and performance, carry out research and problem solve.  This qualification is the equivalent to 70 UCAS points and is recognised in many universities.

ST. JOSEPH'S CELEBRATES SEACHTAIN NA GAELIGERESENTATION TO PRIMARY SCHOOLS

For another year St. Joseph's have been embracing all that is Irish in their celebrations of Seachtain Na Gaelige. Several events were held to mark the event and the school came alive with craic, ceol and comhra. A Trath na gCeist was held for Bliain a hocht, a ceili was held for Bliain a deich and a poster competition was run in conjunction with the Art Department .
Also the staff of the school were encouraged to try their use of the language to find 'Gaelgoir is fearr'. There was great rivalry and healthy competitive spirit amongst staff. The students voted and the emerging winner was our Runai Majella Hatzer. All of these events organised by Mrs Ridley, Head of Irish Department, really brought the Irish department to the fore and the involvement of the students and staff meant Seachtain na Gaelige was a real success.

Gael Linn Quiz Champions for the Fourth Consecutive Year

St. Joseph's emerged victorious from the annual Gael Linn quiz. This is the fourth year in a row ,they have emerged champions. The pupils involved were : Aaron Duffy, Ryan Carville, Sean O g Irwin and Gavin Rowland
This event was held at Newry Sports Centre. This quiz is very popular and there was an impressive turnout from schools in Newry and the surrounding schools in Down and Armagh.
Given the high standard of the competition, it is a great accolade to the Year 11 pupils who took first place. Mrs. Karen Ridley, their Irish teacher was delighted and very proud of the team. She feels the event, which was enjoyed by all pupils who participated is a great way of promoting the Irish language. They are now on their way to the Ulster rounds.
